International travels for business or pleasure are booming, thus, health problems related to travellers that make journeys to developing countries are becoming more and more important. There is a wide range of travellers: elderly or young people, ill people, disabled, etc… each one with different problems, sometimes complex problems that must be solved in a right way and by specialised persons. The Centro di Profilassi e Vaccinazioni Internazionali (International Vaccines and Prophylaxis Centre) ASL Roma/E set in Rome Via Plinio 31, is a health care facility in charge of traveller’s illnesses preventive treatment and diagnosis. It was authorised by the Italian Ministry of Health (Annex 2 Circular of the Italian Ministry of Health n.14 of 11/11/1997 – Guidelines on Malaria prevention - D.G.R. Lazio n.6053 of 17/11/1998), and it provides a sure prevention activity organised as follows: |
- Information and advises to both travel agencies and travellers prior to their departure and on their way back home concerning the principal risks related to international trips (infection, environmental, physical and behaviour risks);
- Information to both general physicians and paediatrists, and health care facilities doctors present in the territory concerning epidemiological, clinical and therapeutical aspects of importation pathologies. The aim of this information service is to avoid the danger of infection, that is to say early single out eventual symptoms of a disease;
- Infective disease and clinical diagnosis;
- Vaccine prophylaxis and tips on anti-malaria chemo-prophylaxis;
- Filling in, on the provided Ministry form, of health passport and the international vaccination certificate proving yellow-fever vaccination.
